This portrait of an Australian Ringneck Parrot focuses on the bird’s striking individuality and the quiet strength carried in its gaze. The rich turquoise blues, crisp whites, and deep blacks reveal the parrot’s natural beauty, while the warm background sets it gently apart from its environment, inviting the viewer to pause and meet it eye to eye.

In this work I wanted to capture more than the colours of the species. I aimed to honour its calm presence and the sense of character that emerges in close study. Painting birds at this scale allows me to highlight the fine textures and subtle details that are so easy to miss in passing. Here, the Ringneck becomes both familiar and dignified, a quiet ambassador of Australia’s unique birdlife.
